Emma Thomas, Director at Trackplot, was delighted to participate in HSE People’s latest “In Conversation with” discussing the impact of climate change on working conditions and lone workers with Rebecca Lambert.
Emma explains that Trackplot is a comprehensive lone worker monitoring solution, established in 2009 following a preventable workplace fatality on a Scottish farm. Emma emphasized the impact of heat stress on workers, especially those wearing PPE and using heavy equipment, and noted the potential for serious health risks in extreme conditions.
Rebecca and Emma discussed how planning ahead is vital to prevent accidents and ill health due to extreme weather events and how Trackplot can help keep lone workers safe. Emma explained that the platform integrates various weather data feeds including Met Office Severe Weather Warnings, Flooding data, and the Fire Weather Index, allowing workers and employers to plan ahead and receive notifications about dangerous conditions.
They also discussed the impact of wildfires on lone worker safety, with Emma describing how the system can help track fire perimeters and provide alerts.
