Trackplot’s key takeaways from Security Matters lone worker webinar
It is important to us that we keep you up to date with the latest information as it is released, to help you and your lone workers stay safe. We recently attended Security Matters’ webinar “Protecting lone workers – personal safety and beyond the norm 2021” on Thursday 11th February.
Focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the key point was to discuss and identify the changes in working practices for both employers and their workers, and to consider how a lone worker monitoring solution can help reduce risks.
In particular, the panel discussed how the landscape of business operations has changed over the last year and how businesses have had to adapt to new ways of working. Many businesses have reduced staff numbers meaning that buddy or group working has become less common, resulting in more lone workers.
To increase lone worker safety it was recommended that employers undertake new risk assessments to identify, assess and control the new risks your lone workers now face. It was advised that each employee has an individual assessment conducted so that their employer can understand their specific needs. The panel suggested that each employee is directly involved in conducting their assessment. The employer’s duty of care for their employees’ physical and mental well-being was highlighted, stating that communication with employees is vital. Identifying vulnerable or ‘high risk’ workers was discussed and the importance of providing reassurance and training regarding any changes made to the way they work, their tasks or responsibilities.
The panel recommended that when choosing a lone worker monitoring solution you take into account all your business needs. There are many different types of solutions available on the market and not all will be right for your operations. They advised that you look for a solution that is flexible and can be tailored for you.
To summarise, the webinar endorsed Trackplot’s continued advice on lone working, particularly during these difficult times, and how to choose the right lone worker monitoring solution for your needs.
